Meeting Minutes 05/05/2008


The meeting began with the wonderful tunes of Gary Freeman on the piano. Earl Lund gave the invocation.

Visitors included visiting Rotarians Phil Steckler from Brattleboro and Chris Ballou from the Elm City Club. Scott Trendell was also introduced as a proposed new member.

Mushball game – Peter Brnger announced that the game against the Elm City Club would be held on June 28 at Eagle Field in Nelson followed by a gettogether at Peter’s place on Granite Lake.

Lobsterfest - Peter Hansel told members that the Club’s #2 fundraiser was coming up with a drawing at the end of June. Tickets will be distributed at next week’s meeting.

David Wright said that the banners were hung downtown by a few rather wet volunteers on Saturday. Center Stage extended its thanks for the efforts of our members. Next up – the Fishing Derby on May 17. David stated that posters were available for members to hang in their workplaces promoting this wonderful activity for kids.

Doug Mealey, our resident “flower child” updated members on Interact geranium sales saying that flowers were still available at a cost of $3.50 per pot.

Rotary Foundation - Bill Stevens conducted the weekly fine collecting with many dollars raised from an “easy” trivia quiz.

Meeting Minutes 04/28/2008

KEENE ROTARY CLUB – MEETING MINUTES - 4/28/2008

President Malcolm Katz convened the meeting and led the signing of America with Gary Freeman at the piano.

Wil Mansfield offered the Invocation.

Ed Winter introduced a visiting Rotarian, Tim Meaney, from the Elm City Club. Louise Zerba introduced Samantha Thompson, outbound student to Belgium. Other guests included Audrey Osgood, Tom Dowling, Wayne Woolridge and Bob Mallat, as well as 4 students from the Interact Club. Bob Mallat was accompanied by two other guests from Claremont Community College.

Sam Bradley introduced a new member, Paul Boulet, and John Harper installed him as a member of the club. Paul is originally from New York, graduated from ConVal High School and the Whittemore School at UNH. He works in investments at Connecticut River Bank. John’s installation provided a good review of Rotary projects and services.

Ed Winter noted that 2008-2009 Committee assignments are on each table for review by members.

A card was circulated for members to sign for Ed McCann.

David Wright said that the downtown banners will be hung this Saturday 5/3/2008. Meet at 8:30 am at Railroad Square.

Darrell Carlson related his recent experience participating in a Road Race sponsored by the Dennis-Yarmouth Rotary Club in Massachusetts that raised approximately $2000 scholarship money. The entry fee was a small money amount plus a bag of food for the local food pantry. He suggested that our club might consider a similar type of event and he would be willing to work on it. President Malcolm said that it might be considered but considerable planning must happen first.

President Malcolm made an announcement on behalf of Cathy Gray that the Cedarcrest Keene-tucky Derby is this week. He also reminded everyone to plan for the softball game on 6/28/2008 in nelson.

Doug Mealey announced the Interact geranium sale and plants are available this Thursday after 3 pm.

Bod DeJong and Rob Therrien both spoke about Doug Brown’s recovery from a head injury and suggested that cards be sent.

Barbara Patnode conducted Foundation, asking each member to contribute $1 in memory of Mr. Foundation himself, Bob Therrien. Brian Dodge had the winning ticket and the quiz was about the rising price of food.

Bob Mallet was invited to introduce the speaker, Dr. Richard Gustafson.


Meeting Minutes 04/14/2008

President Malcolm called the meeting to order. Gary Freeman had double duty both playing the piano and offering invocation.

Jim Duffy made an announcement that the City of Keene is looking for vision input for the new master plan and will be holding an open house.

Janet Warren is looking for photos for the Military Appreciation Week.

David Wright announced the Highway cleanup will be Saturday 4/19 at 8:30 a.m.

Peter Brnger asked the group to mark calendars for June 28th for the inter-club softball game in Nelson with a social following at his home. More details to follow.

Barry Faulkner conducted foundation quizzing the club about where our tax dollars go. Many dollars were collected. David Bergeron won the weekly raffle but failed to pull the Queen of Hearts.

Meeting Minutes 04/07/2008

KEENE ROTARY CLUB – MEETING MINUTES - 4/7/2008

President Malcolm Katz convened the meeting and led the signing of America with Gary Freeman at the piano.

Darrell Carlson offered the Invocation.

Ed Winter introduced two visiting Rotarians, Patty Farmer and Christine Ballou, both from the Elm City Club. Two guests were introduced as well as 5 students from the Interact Club.

President Malcolm gave a reading for a prospective new member.

David Wright spoke about highway clean-up which will probably be 4/19/2008 and he will announce it again next week.

President Malcolm thanked Juliana Bergeron for hosting a party for Veronica and her parents from France. He also announced the Board meeting 4/9/2008 at Cedarcrest at 5 pm.

Jay Blanchard conducted Foundation and collected many dollars by brags and also with his trivia quiz about the Animal Kingdom, 1970’s music and the Martin Luther King Assasination. Wil Mansfield won the weekly raffle.

Paul Vincent introduced today’s speakers, Jan Cohen and Larry Siegel.

The last meeting for February 2008 was opened by Vice President Ed Winter, substituting for the absent president Malcolm Katz at 12:25pm.

Gary Freeman played America the Beautiful on the piano while the club members sang along in their usual and customary style.

Will Mansfield gave the invocation and couldn’t resist an interesting, but short imitation of John Stewart at the Oscars.

Peter Hansel introduced visiting Rotarians and guests and the club members welcomed them to the meeting in their unique manner.

Ed announced that he was passing a basket in hopes of collecting contributions to give to the club members who are leaving for El Salvador this Wednesday so they could bring gifts to the people there. The members dug deep into their pockets and came up with over $321.

Foundation was conducted by Ed Wojenski. The raffle was won by Darrell Carlson although he did not bring enough luck with him to pick the queen. After a session of brags and fines, Ed gave a quiz about El Salvador. There were eight questions. Fortunately they were multiple choice. The winning table got six out of eight correct, everyone else paid a dollar.
